Biblical Resource Training Center (BRTC)



The Biblical Research Training Center (BRTC) a ministry of the Word of Grace Missionary Baptist Church was founded by Pastor Artis Lovelady, III who began teaching biblical research at the College of Biblical Studies Houston in 2000 as an elective course, after that he taught the research part of the Advanced Writing and Research course at the college. Pastor Lovelady has taught seminars and workshops on biblical research, bible lesson preparation and teaching methodology, for churches, pastor's groups and other bible schools around the greater Houston area. Below is the BRTC's mission statement, target group and goals. Mission Statement:

To equip the body of Christ with resources that assist in biblical (and non-biblical) research, understanding, interpretation, application, teaching and preaching of the Bible.


Target Group:

Everyone who wants to improve biblical research, study skills, teaching, preaching and/or sharing the Bible effectively. (This includes any denomination, male, female, any ethic group, any age, teachers, preachers, pastors, Christian or non-Christian individual who wants to grow in the knowledge and understanding of the Bible.)


Goals:

1. Expose individuals to biblical and non-biblical research resources

2. Educate individuals how to find and use these resources

3. Education, teach individuals how to apply these resources in teaching and preaching situations

4. Edification, to build up the body of Christ through these resources​

Mishnah (by Herbert Danby) - The Mishnah or Mishna is the first major written collection of the Jewish oral traditions known as the Oral Torah. It has six divisions, they are: Zeraim ("Seeds"), dealing with prayer and blessings, tithes and agricultural laws (11 tractates) Moed ("Festival"), pertaining to the laws of the Sabbath and the Festivals (12 tractates) Nashim ("Women"), concerning marriage and divorce, some forms of oaths and the laws of the nazirite (7 tractates) Nezikin ("Damages"), dealing with civil and criminal law, the functioning of the courts and oaths (10 tractates) Kodashim ("Holy things"), regarding sacrificial rites, the Temple, and the dietary laws (11 tractates) and Tohorot ("Purities"), pertaining to the laws of purity and impurity, including the impurity of the dead, the laws of food purity and bodily purity (12 tractates).


Apocrypha (Old Testament) - The Old Testament Apocrypha consist of Jewish documents that were not accepted into the Old Testament.


Early Christian Writings - Writings of the New Testament, Apocrypha, Gnostics, Church Fathers, Jewish and Pagan writings, etc.


Apocrypha (New Testament) - The New Testament Apocrypha are those writings that were written by ancient Christians that were not accepted into the New Testament.

Flavius Josephus – Joseph Ben Matthias (b. AD 37/38,-d. AD 100), Jewish priest, scholar, and historian who wrote on the Jewish revolt of 66–70 and on earlier Jewish history. His major books are History of the Jewish War (75–79), The Antiquities of the Jews (93), and Against Apion. Writing of Jewish history from creation to the destruction of Jerusalem by Romans


Philo of Alexandria – Jewish Philosopher (c. 20 BC – d. AD 50) was a Jewish-Egyptian philosopher of the Hellenistic period, and one of the most important Jewish Philosophers of ancient times.

Diodorus Siculus - The Library of History - Diodorus of Sicily, (1st cen. BC) a Greek historian is known for writing universal history Bibliotheca historica, in three parts.
